🌿 Beginner Foraging Walk in Jefferson Memorial Forest
South Louisville • Family‑Friendly • Slow‑Paced
đź“… Date & Time
July 18th, 2026 from 6:30-7:30
Hey y'all! Come join us for a gentle half‑mile beginner foraging hike where we’ll explore the plants growing right in our own backyard. This walk is perfect for anyone who has ever wondered, “What is this plant?” or wanted to feel more confident identifying the edible and medicinal species around them.
🌱 What We’ll Cover
During our walk, we’ll move at an easy, unhurried pace and learn:
How to observe leaf arrangement and other simple ID clues
Basic botanical terms that make plant identification easier
How to safely begin foraging in your own neighborhood
The edible, medicinal, and ecological roles of the plants we meet along the path
This is a supportive, beginner‑friendly space — no experience needed. Just curiosity and comfortable shoes.
🌼 Who This Is For
Families, Total beginners, Folks wanting to reconnect with nature.
Anyone who wants to learn how to identify common plants with confidence.
$15 per person
Children can attend at no cost & must have a (ticketed) parent or guardian with them at all times.
I've had tremendous interest in these events, to keep this a cozy, supportive learning space where everyone can ask questions and be heard, I’m capping the group at 20 participants.
🌳 What to Bring
Comfortable walking shoes, Water, Notebook (optional)
An open heart and a curious mind
🌸 Where We’ll Meet
Jefferson Memorial Forest
I’ll send the exact meeting spot after registration to keep the group manageable and the location protected.
**Please come prepared for warm temperatures, light humidity, and increased insect activity. We recommend comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, and your preferred bug protection. As the sun begins to set, the woods come alive — expect gentle breezes, shifting light, and a peaceful wind‑down pace perfect for plant identification and mindful movement. Also, please, keep in mind, we will not be harvesting any plants, just identifying them.
